Frequently Asked Questions

We know that questions around services, fees, insurance, and appointments are important. Here you’ll find straightforward answers to the most common questions we receive, helping you understand what to expect before getting started with care at the Utah Center for Psychological Services.
Do you accept Medicaid or commercial insurance for forensic evaluations?
Insurance does not cover any forensic evaluation services. This includes:
All forensic evaluations are private-pay and billed directly to the client, agency, or attorney. We can provide itemized invoices or documentation as needed for legal proceedings.
A psychological evaluation is a structured but collaborative process designed to help you gain clarity about your experiences. Most evaluations include four steps:

1. Intake Session (Telehealth or in person)

We begin by discussing your concerns, history, and goals. This helps us understand what questions you want answered and tailor the evaluation to your needs.

2. Testing Appointment(s) (In person)

Testing is completed in person using a combination of interviews, questionnaires, and standardized assessments. We move at a comfortable pace and explain each step along the way.

3. Report & Recommendations

After testing, your clinician thoughtfully reviews and integrates all results. You receive a detailed report that includes diagnostic impressions (if appropriate) and personalized, realistic recommendations you can actually use.

4. Feedback Session (Telehealth or in person)

We meet with you to walk through the findings, answer questions, and help you understand next steps. Many clients find this session grounding and validating.

An ADHD evaluation focuses specifically on understanding attention, focus, impulsivity, and executive functioning. It includes targeted measures designed to assess whether symptoms are consistent with ADHD.
A comprehensive evaluation looks at the full picture. This includes ADHD, but also:
Many people come in wondering specifically about ADHD. That’s a common and valid question. However, difficulties with focus and organization can come from many sources, such as trauma, anxiety, depression, autism, learning differences, or chronic stress.
Because these issues can overlap with or mimic ADHD, we treat every evaluation as a comprehensive evaluation. This approach allows us to understand the full picture of your strengths, challenges, history, and context, so we can determine whether ADHD is present and whether other factors may be contributing.
You are absolutely welcome to share your questions about ADHD; we simply use a broader framework to ensure you receive accurate answers and meaningful, personalized recommendations.
Coverage varies depending on your insurance plan, the type of evaluation requested, and the specific concerns we are assessing.
Before your appointment, our admin team will verify your benefits and give you an estimate of what your plan is likely to cover. We also offer cash-pay options when insurance does not apply.
Wait times vary depending on the type of evaluation and clinician availability, but most clients are scheduled within 4–8 weeks.
If you would like to be seen sooner, we offer a cancellation list, and last minute openings do become available from time to time.
No paperwork = no placement on the cancellation list.
Once everything is complete and your insurance has been verified, we will add you to the list and contact you immediately if an earlier appointment becomes available.
