Parental Fitness Evaluations

We provide comprehensive psychological evaluations of parental fitness for individuals involved in custody disputes, child welfare cases, or court-ordered assessments. These evaluations are conducted with care, neutrality, and clinical rigor to help courts and agencies make informed decisions in the best interest of the child.
Our evaluations are designed to:
  • Assess a parent’s psychological functioning, parenting capacity, and ability to provide a safe, stable, and supportive environment
  • Identify mental health or substance use concerns that may impact parenting
  • Evaluate risk and protective factors related to the parent child relationship
  • Provide clear, evidence-based recommendations for custody, reunification, visitation, or supportive services

What Our Parental Fitness Evaluations Include:

  • A thorough 90-minute clinical interview exploring the parent’s history, current functioning, symptoms, and mental health history
  • A 60-minute interview focused on the parent’s parenting practices and perspective on the case
  • Standardized psychological testing to assess personality structure, emotional functioning, impulse control, substance use, and parenting attitudes
  • Review of relevant records (e.g., court documents, treatment history, CPS involvement, collateral reports)
  • When appropriate, interviews or observations of parent–child interactions
  • Collateral interviews
  • A comprehensive, court-ready report that includes diagnostic impressions, behavioral observations, and clear recommendations

Whether the evaluation is requested by the court, a guardian ad litem, or an attorney, our goal is to provide objective, thorough assessments that prioritize child well being while respecting the dignity of all parties involved.
