ACCEPTING NEW ASSESSMENT CLIENTS BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 2026
Dr. Amber Dethlefs provides thoughtful, comprehensive psychological evaluations in Salt Lake City for preschool-aged children, adolescents, and adults seeking clarity, answers, and practical next steps. She specializes in helping individuals and families better understand learning, attention, behavior, development, and social-emotional functioning through evidence-based assessment and personalized recommendations.
Dr. Dethlefs believes that a psychological evaluation should do more than provide a diagnosis; it should help people understand their strengths, identify barriers to success, and develop a clear plan for moving forward. Her collaborative and compassionate approach helps clients feel supported throughout the assessment process while providing recommendations that can be applied at home, school, work, and in everyday life.
Dr. Dethlefs earned her PhD in School Psychology and her master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from the University of Tennessee. Throughout her graduate training, she developed extensive experience in psychological assessment, consultation, and intervention across both educational and clinical settings.
She completed her predoctoral internship through the Tennessee Internship Consortium, where she provided comprehensive psychological evaluations and evidence-based interventions in both a private psychology clinic and school-based setting. This unique training allowed her to collaborate closely with families, educators, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams while developing expertise in understanding learning, behavior, development, and emotional functioning.
In addition to her work at Utah Center for Psychological Services, Dr. Dethlefs also practices as a school psychologist, giving her firsthand experience helping students and families navigate educational systems, accommodations, and school-based supports.

Whether parents are concerned about a child’s learning, an adult is questioning long-standing attention difficulties, or a family is seeking answers about autism or emotional concerns, she strives to create an evaluation experience that feels supportive, collaborative, and informative.
Her assessments integrate information from clinical interviews, standardized psychological testing, behavioral observations, developmental history, and collateral information to develop a comprehensive understanding of each individual’s strengths and challenges.
Rather than simply answering whether someone meets criteria for a diagnosis, she focuses on providing practical recommendations that help clients succeed across multiple areas of life.
